This Cookie Policy explains how AWSA uses cookies and similar technologies, such as browser local storage, on awsa.net. The short version: we do not set any cookies of our own, we do not use analytics or advertising trackers, and we only store two small preference items in your browser so the website works the way you expect.

1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit it. They are sent back to the website each time you load a page, which allows the site to remember things such as whether you are logged in or what is in your shopping cart. Cookies can be set by the website you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by other companies whose content appears on that website ("third-party cookies"). Third-party cookies are often used to track people across many websites for advertising and analytics.
Local storage is a feature built into modern web browsers that lets a website save small pieces of information on your device. Unlike cookies, information in local storage is not automatically sent to the website's server with every page request. It stays in your browser and can only be read by pages on the same website. It is not deleted when you close your browser; it remains until it is cleared by you or by the website.
Privacy laws such as the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, the EU ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR treat local storage in the same way as cookies. That is why we explain our use of it here, and why we ask for your choice through our cookie banner.
2. What We Use on awsa.net
Our website is a static site with self-hosted fonts and scripts. That means we do not load fonts from Google, scripts from content delivery networks, or any tracking code from third parties. We do not set any HTTP cookies of our own.
We use browser local storage for the following two items only:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
awsa_cookie_consent | Local storage (strictly necessary) | Remembers the choice you made in our cookie and privacy banner, so we do not ask you again on every page | Until you clear it or your browser storage | AWSA (first party) |
awsa_tools_prefs | Local storage (functional) | Remembers your preferences in our training tools, such as lb or kg units and your last interval timer settings | Until you clear it or your browser storage | AWSA (first party) |
Neither item contains your name, email address or any other information that directly identifies you, and neither is sent to us or to anyone else. They exist purely to make the website more convenient for you.
3. Third-Party Content: YouTube Videos
Some of our articles include helpful exercise videos hosted on YouTube. To protect your privacy, we embed these videos in a click-to-load format using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).
- Before you click play: you see only a placeholder image served from our own website. Nothing is loaded from YouTube, and YouTube receives no information about your visit.
- After you click play: your browser connects to YouTube to load the video. YouTube may then receive your IP address and device information, and may store cookies or local storage data on your device in line with its own terms and privacy policy.
We do not control the data YouTube collects once a video is loaded. If you prefer not to share data with YouTube, simply do not click to play the video. You can still read the full article without it.
4. What We Do Not Use
We believe a fitness education website should not need to follow you around the internet. That is why awsa.net does not use:
- Analytics tools that track your visits, clicks or time on page
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Social media pixels, "like" buttons or embedded social feeds that track visitors
- Third-party fonts or scripts loaded from external servers
- Session recording, heatmaps or browser fingerprinting
- Cookies or tracking technologies that sell or share your data for advertising
If we ever decide to introduce any new cookies or similar technologies, we will update this policy first and, where required by law, ask for your consent before using them.
5. How to Manage or Change Your Consent
When you first visit our website, a banner explains how we use local storage and lets you make a choice. Your choice is saved in awsa_cookie_consent so the banner does not keep appearing.
You can change your mind at any time:
- Scroll to the bottom of any page on awsa.net.
- Click the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
- The cookie banner will open again, and you can update your choice.
You can also block or delete local storage entirely through your browser settings, as described in the next section. Please note that if you clear or block local storage, the website will forget your cookie choice and tool preferences, so you may see the banner again and your tools will return to their default settings. The website will still work normally.
6. How to Clear Cookies and Local Storage in Your Browser
Every major browser lets you view and delete cookies and site data, including local storage. Menu names change from time to time, but the steps below describe the usual approach in each browser.
Google Chrome

Go to Privacy and security, then select Third-party cookies or Site settings, and choose to see all site data and permissions. Search for awsa.net and click the trash icon to delete its stored data. To clear everything at once, use Delete browsing data and select "Cookies and other site data."
Mozilla Firefox
Open the menu (the three lines in the top-right corner) and choose Settings. Select Privacy & Security and scroll to Cookies and Site Data. Click Manage Data, search for awsa.net, select it and click Remove Selected, then Save Changes. You can also click Clear Data to remove all cookies and site data.
Apple Safari
On a Mac, open Safari, choose Settings (or Preferences) from the Safari menu, then select the Privacy tab and click Manage Website Data. Search for awsa.net, select it and click Remove. On an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, tap Safari, then Advanced, then Website Data, and swipe left on awsa.net to delete it.
Microsoft Edge
Open the menu (the three dots in the top-right corner) and choose Settings. Select Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data, and then See all cookies and site data. On mobile devices and other browsers, look for options labelled "site data," "website data," "cookies" or "storage" in the browser's privacy settings.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we do not use tracking cookies, analytics or advertising technologies, our website already respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. No additional action is needed on your part. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we change the technologies used on our website or if the law changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we introduce any new non-essential cookies or similar technologies, we will ask for your consent again where required.
